Sligo Feis Ceoil 2011 and RTE Lyric FM Junior Vocal Bursary  - April 2011  

Congratulations to Sean Garvey of Glasson Co.Westmeath, who won First Place in the Junior Musical Theatre Solo Competition and Second Place in the Junior Vocal Solo competition. Sean also went on to be chosen as the RTE Lyric FM Most Promising Junior Vocal Soloist and was awarded the RTE Lyric FM Junior Vocal Bursary.                                                                                          

 

 

 

 

Navan Solo Singing Competitions 2011  - March 2011  

Congratulations to Winceslas Ostasenko of Mullingar, Co.Westmeath who won the "Junior Vocal Solo Cup ages 14-16" in the Navan Vocal Solo Competitions. As a result of this Winceslas was awarded the opportunity to sing for 600 guests at the adjudication entertainment section of the Rotary National Choir of the Year competition at the Navan Choral Festival.                                                                                          

 

 

 

 

Navan Choral Festival 2011 - Four Awards  - March 2011  

Congratulations to The Academy Chamber Choir who won Second Place in the Mixed Voice competition, a Distinction in the Early Music competition and a much coveted Third Place in the Sacred Music competition which was the largest competition of the day. The choir were also awarded a Distinction in the Rotary National Choir Of The Year Competition.                                                                                          

 

 

 

 

Cork International Choral Festival 2011 - Three Awards  - March 2011  

The Academy Chamber Choir took Second Place in the Premier National Competition for Chamber Choirs at the Cork International Choral Festival. As it was the choirs first time to attend this prestigious festival they were overjoyed with the award. However, the success over the weekend in Cork was not to cease there. They went on to win The John Mannion Memorial Trophy a special Award for the performance of a piece in the Premier Competition for Chamber Choirs as well as the Perpetual Trophy for the Performance of Irish Contemporary Choral Music a special award for the performance of an original choral work by an Irish composer written after 1975. Their recent masterclass in Moate with the composer Colin Mawby proved even more fruitful as it was his wonderful choral work Angelus Domini which secured them these two major accolades.                                                                                          

 

Colin Mawby Master Classes - Feb 2011 

Internationally renowned composer Colin Mawby treated the Academy Chamber Choir and the Academy's "Moate Youth Choir" to a masterclass which they will never forget. Prior to this wonderful experience each choir had been working on pieces composed by Colin Mawby, who has worked with internationally recognised superstars such as Charlotte Church, Celtic Tenors and the Westminster Cathedral choir to name but a few. During the masterclass, Mawby worked on these pieces until they were perfect. The Choirs went on to use the pieces in both concert and winning competition performances throughout the year. Following the /span> master classes both choirs performed the works at a concert with leading Irish Organist Shane Brennan to rapturous applause. Limerick Choral Festival - First Place Plainchant Cup - March 2011
