ACADEMY FLUTE STUDENT AWARDED COVETED PLACE IN IRELAND’S NATIONAL YOUTH ORCHESTRA 

 

Talented Flautist Eoin Fallon (16 Years) from Rochfortbridge has just been awarded a coveted place with the National Youth Orchestra (NYO) of Ireland.

Eoin was one of only 3 flute players chosen from Nationwide auditions. Ireland’s most talented young musicians the length and breadth of the country audition every year with the hope of being successful in becoming part of Irelands “Most exciting orchestra”.  
Eoin says that he only auditioned for the NYO to gain experience, “My audition was with other flautists who had all auditioned before and with only 3 places I was delighted to have been chosen”.
Eoin got into the NYO on the strength of his first audition and will begin rehearsals next month which will be followed by concerts in The National Concert Hall for two concerts and following on to Dublin’s Convention Center under the baton of Gearoid Grant; however, he is most excited about getting the chance to play at Lisbon Music Festival, Portugal under the baton of Internationally renowned Dutch conductor Kees Bakels.  

Eoin (a Transition year student at St. Joseph's secondary school) is one of the Advanced Flute students at the Academy of Music, studying under Mr. Kevin Carberry. He has been playing the flute for 6 years and has recently completed his grade 8 exam and has also started playing the Piccolo this year also. He has been a member of the Midlands Youth Orchestra for the past 4 years.
Teacher Kevin Carberry described Eoin’s achievement as “stunning” and “it is a real recognition of Eoin’s ability.”   The NYO’s vision is to inspire young Irish musicians through the study of challenging and exciting repertoire under the guidance of music professionals, encouraging performance of the highest standard on national and international concert platforms.
