GLÓR YOUTH CHOIR have come 3rd place out of 18 choirs in the "National Youth Choir of the Year" Competition at Navan Choral Festival 2019.

The 37 strong Choir based in Moate, are walking on air after scooping 3rd prize in the big competition of the day - the "National Youth Choir of the Year".

Adjudicator Blahnaid Murphy (Pictured with Choir above) highly praised the choir for their "Excellent Singing, Blend and Sense of style and for a performance brimming with electricity and rhythmn" and Richard Yarr(also pictured with choir above) applauded the choir in all aspects of their singing and singled them out for being "A very well presented group, Immediately engaging, very well disciplined, an excellent team, sung with great articulation and a superb ending".

GLÓR YOUTH CHOIR, based in Moate, Co. Westmeath is a training ground for young secondary school singers in the Midland regions. The choir work with sheet music, learn to sight read, and receive vocal training with graded exams.

Over the past decade they have steadily grown and developed from a treble mixed choir into a youth choir. In 2016 they won First Place at Kilkenny Music Festival. In 2017 they came second place in the Junior Cycle competition and Second place in the Liturgical music choirs competition at Navan Choral Festival in 2018. In November last they successfully competed in North Wales International Youth Choir Competition and they were honoured to be invited to sing the Christmas Day Service on RTE1 Television which was broadcast from the RTE Studios last Christmas Day.

The choir’s founder and Director Ciaran Brady is Director of the Academy of Music in Tullamore, and is Vocal Coach and Performance Tutor with the Music Dept. at Maynooth University.

They rehearse on Thursdays at Dun na Si hall in Moate and new members are always welcome.
